Parachuting is an extreme sport and consists on exiting an airplane and returning to land with the help of gravity, while using a parachute to slow down the speed during the last part of the descent. Our tandem parachuting jumps in Rio involve a certain amount of free-fall. History says that parachuting started with Andre Garnerin who made successful descents using a canvas canopy and small basket but the first real free fall jump with a ripcord-operated deployment is credited to Leslie Irvin in 1919 . Early competitions go back to the 1930s, and the sport became international in 1952.
