About Dois Irmãos
Our Dois Irmãos Hiking Tour in Rio de Janeirowill take you to the top of one of the most famous mountains in Rio, the Dois Irmãos Hill (Twin Brothers). Located on the coastline of the city, it marks the division of leblon and pepino beach in São Conrado. When you look at it from Ipanema beach, you cannot miss it, as it looks like a shark with the mouth wide open. It is 533 meters high, and accessed only via Vidigal Slum. It has one of the most amazing views of our city, and is one of Rio´s post cards The trail is considered to be easy for most regular hikers. Its length is just 1,6 km (1 mile) long and it’s quite easy for most regular hikers as it takes a bit less than an hour to reach its summit.
Tour starts with hotel pick up at 08:00 am. In summer we do it at 7:00 due to the heat. We head out to the Favela do Vidigal, where we can either park the car and go straight to trail or have the optional ride in the moto taxis as we call (optional service paid separately).
We pass by the narrow streets of the favela before we reach the beginning of the trail. Once up there, travelers can contemplate of of the best views of Rio. That includes places like Ipanema, Arpoador, São Conrado and a bit of Tijuca Forest. On the way up, and also after the hike ends, the guide will make a few stops along the slum, for photos for showing around. This trip is a great opportunity for active travelers who also like to enjoy and learn about social and cultural aspects of our city and people.

Had an amazing tour with our guide Alex from Rio Adventures. The hike up the mountain was great, even if the humidity was oppressive. Wear clothes that breath instead if cotton if you go during summer, and bring water. The views were incredible, but we did have to wait out the clouds for about 20 minutes at the summit. That's okay. I was glad for the break and chance to rest. Alex was an excellent tour guide giving us a lot of interesting information about the local community, vegetation, animals we saw on the hike, and Rio in general. He knew the right pace for our group and kept everyone engaged. I would highly recommend this hike and Alex as a guide.
Great tour and guide for the hike to the Morro dos Dois Irmaos! We thought about doing the hike without a guide, but we are really really glad we used Rio Adventures. Our guide Rafael was super knowledgeable about the environment, city, and the Vidigal favela. Also we thought the hike itself would be more of a moderate-borderline hard in intensity. Having Rafael help us down was awesome!
It is a 2-3 hour hike in hot and humid weather with the trailhead starting at the Favela and going through nice vegetation with moderately steep climbs in between. The weather was not very cooperative but we did get some views of the ocean and the favelas as the clouds cleared a little. However we missed the beautiful arial views of the beaches and the city from up above. We had an awesome guide in Raphael who paced it very well for us and helped us through some of the steeper parts. He was also able to give some insights into the nature around us. Coming down was intense on the knees and Raphael provided good support and guidance. Would be a good idea to check weather to get the most out of this hike.
My guide was extremely knowledgeable and took me on a safe informative hike up DOIS IRMÃOS. We made it up quickly and the guide insisted that we wait at the top until the clouds had cleared so we could see the view (even thought this meant more time out of his day). He even took the time to walk me down through Vidigal, meet some of the locals and show me good restaurants to eat at. I would ABSOLUTELY recommend using Rio Adventures over doing this hike alone as the experience and knowledge they provide made my experience. I am an experienced hiker and would typically do this type of hike alone.
The hiking tour to dois irmaos with RioAdventures was really amazing! One day before our hiking tour I asked RioAdventures some questions about this tour and I got an answer really quick. We been picked up on time with a little van. The hiking tour was a little bit exhausting but not impossible for people who don't hike often. One tip: wear only hiking shoes or good profile shoes. The view was beautiful! All in all it was worth it! Thank you RioAdventures!
We went on this hike in the morning on Feb 20th. I booked online a few days ahead, and our guide, Rafael, was at our hotel to pick us up at 8AM sharp. We drove to the entrance of the Vidigal favela, and took a mini-bus (public transportation) to the "top" of the favela - where it ends and meets the forest. The hike up to the top was not very easy - I would say that it easily qualifies as a moderate hike at least, so going there first thing in the morning (before the heat wave had hit) was definitely a good decision. Along the way to the top, there were a few stops for photos - and Rafael was extremely helpful in taking photos of me and my wife. He was also explaining the plant life as we were climbing, and showing us the different parts of town from the various viewpoints. When we got to the top, he took photos for us and explained everything that we were seeing underneath, including the various types of birds flying through the air. He was in great shape, so this allowed us to arrive to the top first, before the large groups of tourists gathered. He was very knowledgeable and extremely excited about his job. While his English skills could use some improvement, it was overall a fantastic experience.
