Paintball began in the early 1970s, when it was used as a tool for marking trees and livestock. Charles Gaines, Hayes Noel and Bob Gurnsey were the first people to create a new way to use the guns. In 1981, a group of twelve friends played the first  paintball game using industrial paintball guns from the Nelson Paint Company on an open field with over 100 acres (with no masks or safety gear!). Long stretches of quiet, with people busy stalking each other and worried about whether they were being stalked, were the norm.

Over the years, recreational paintball has become more sophisticated and fun. Nowadays more people are playing at one time, so the use of teams became the standards. The most popular paintball game is the one called “capture the flag”, but offensive/defensive scenarios also are popular.

A tourist ready for action !

Rio Adventures offers paintball in Rio , in a  1200 squared meters field, just  30 minutes from the south area, in Barra da Tijuca neighborhood. The field is a scenario paintball, which offers a very dynamic and fast game. In this case, the scenario has an urban appeal, with shacks , barrels and walls everywhere, looking a bit like a slum environment. After the safety tips are given, and everybody has helmets, masks and bullet proof vests on, the teams are divided in two. We need at least 2 members on each side, in order to create a team. The type of game can be decided there, with options of “capture the flag” or “last man standing”types. This is the perfect activity for groups of friends who enjoy the sport.
