About Pedra do Telegrafo
The mountain got its name during the Second World War, as it served as a military observation post, where soldiers would search for enemy ships and submarines in our coast. The mountain summit offers a great view of Rio`s coastline, including the breathtaking Restinga de Marambaia, a 43km sandbank, with clear waters and white sands, separating the sea from a wild swamp area. This untouched area is well protected and guarded by the brazilian army.
What makes this hike unique, is not only the views from the top of Pedra do Telegrafo, but also (or perhaps mainly), because of a little sharp rock, sitting on top of the mountain. As you stand on top of it, or hang from its edge, (which is very close to the ground), the camera shot can give the impression that you’re hanging on for dear life! Thanks to instagram and the photos posted from there around 2016, we have a new attraction in Rio.
